Qld; 13 year old pregnant girl locked in police watchhouse =2

Mr O'Gorman later said that while police always had the discretion to enforce the law,
he could not understand why the girl had been locked up for breaking her curfew.

He said she had only been making a phone call to her parents from a phone box with
her three-year-old cousin when she was taken into custody.

"It's beyond my comprehension," he said.

"It's a misuse and an abuse of justice."

Mr O'Gorman said he would be lodging an official complaint with Police Minister Tom
Barton and with the Criminal Justice Commission (CJC).
